Sell bagels live honorably

First time I heard this chant was in Gezi Park events in 2013. Thousands of people were chanting “Polis simit sat onurlu yaşa/Police, sell bagels, live honorably”. Currently we dropped the police and started using it for other forms of corruption. It is especially being used for politicians, lawyers and spokespersons when they defend an obviously corrupt or injustice argument. In Turko-Islam culture breadwinning is a holy deed and must come from a legitimate source....

Gas

The word gas (or as we say gaz), was introduced from French (gaz) to Turkish. We have some sayings using the word gas. Gaza getirmek (Bring someone to gas): To motivate, to encourage. But in a phony way for a non-achievable or larger than life aim Gaz vermek (Give someone some gas): Same as above Gaza gelmek (Coming into the gas): Being pumped up. Being highly motivated Gazlamak (To produce gas): Stepping on it....

Moved my Blog to Hugo

I was looking for a dead simple solution for personal blogging. Found Hugo. I am happy so far as it looks clean and minimalist. I plan to use this space for some ramblings about sw development (which I plan to do rarely) and some cultural blog posts. Those cultural blog posts will be moslty tagged under “Turkish culture for my wife”. Maybe if I have time I can also write about some other topics that interest me like retro technologies and tinkering....
